their red color. Lycopene is also one of the main carotenoids
that is found in our bodies. Studies indicate that lycopene
is a powerful antioxidant. Certain activities such as
smoking reduces our blood levels of lycopene.
Lycopene may also be in lower amounts in persons that
are overweight, and blood levels may steadily decrease
with aging. There is some indication that lycopene may
help suppress the synthesis of cholesterol.
